The new IDC report has revealed that the printer market had a strong finish to bookings across the world last 2024. Almost 22 million units were shipped globally in a single quarter, a year-on-year growth of 3.1% for Q4 alone. That’s also the second quarter in a row to demonstrate an increase when compared to the same period in the year before.
Five of the nine large regional markets delivered positive growth. Shipments in Western Europe showed a strong increase, up 10.5%. The Asia-Pacific (ex-Japan & China) region too registered steady growth at 5.4%. However, the boom came from Latin America with a whopping 29.5% increase in total printer shipments as demand slowly improves and channels gain strength. Support came from the Middle East and Africa, which saw a 4.3% increase while Canada also performed well with a 10.6% increase.
What’s behind the growth? There are a few reasons behind this. First of all, local economies in several areas are recovering or stabilizing, leading to greater confidence from both businesses and individuals to invest in hardware once more. 2. Automakers have offered appealing incentives and promotions on lower- to middle-list-price vehicles, and buyers are responding.
The printer use case is also experiencing a big change. That said, small businesses are replacing older machines with faster, more efficient ones in some areas, and home users are still using workhorse models for hybrid work and school arrangements in others. Put simply, the printers are not going anywhere — the demand is still there, but it’s changing.
These numbers, for those of us in the printer parts business are much more than just numbers. The need for reliable parts and supplies is alive.
